Anatomy of a vegan skate shoe, part V: 2015 - 2025

An incomplete reminiscence

2015

Servant "Dagon" blue

Servant "Dagon" black

Servant "Dagon" red

Servant "Loiters"
These were a collab with the now (2025) defunct Street Plant (Mike Vallely's company). You can see more of these shoes here. For some reason I do not seem to have a photo of the destroyed version of these shoes. And I don't have them anymore. Like many things, they became victims of the moving house without money issue.

2016

... I definitely skated a lot in 2016 ... Not sure where the photos are.

2017

éS "Sesla" navy

2018

Vans "AV Rapidweld Pro Lite" port royale [burgundy]
Only the "AV Rapidweld Pro" shoes with the "Lite" in the name were vegan. This shoe was released in 2016.

Etnies "Ryan Lay Jameson HT" black.
This shoe was released in 2017 and was only available in black vegan suede and grey canvas with cartoon cow prints.

Servant "Dagon" black
The white stuff is All Star Gum.

Vans "Era" [purple and grey]
With all-canvas upper

2019

Nike "Nyjah 1" [black with gum]

Nike "Charge" red
All-canvas upper

2020

New Balance Numeric "420" [black; vegan]
This shoe came out 2019 (?), but I skated them in 2020. Pandemic bootcamp shoes.

New Balance Numeric "420" [black with blue; vegan]

Etnies "Marana Michelin" tan gum
I love these, and I love that they have a (heavy-duty) canvas mid-section. I wish, Etnies would come out with another vegan and canvas-midsection Marana. This shoe came out in 2020, and I had at least two pairs. I also skated these in 2021.

2021

... not sure ... definitely skated a lot

2022

éS "Accel Slim" colourway "blue grey white", 2022

Etnies "Marana Michelin" navy tan white
These came out in 2022. But I think this pair and the photos are from 2023. With a little help from Shoe Goo. I've skated this particular pair (that is arguably with 1 1/2 feet in the grave) in several regions of the Philippines. Tropics approved. I love these shoes. Insoles - no thanks.

Emerica "Wino G6 Slip-on x Toy Machine" burnt orange
To be frank: These are heavy slip-ons, and they fall off my feet, and the quality is not good. More info here. As you can see I didn't skate in these (or only once for 5 minutes). These shoes came out in 2022.

2023

Emerica "Quentin" navy
These shoes are beautiful, but not as durable as the Etnies Marana.

Etnies Marana (x 2), éS Accel Slim, Emerica Quentin

Etnies "Marana Michelin" dark grey black gum
Great shoe

éS "Accel Slim" white navy

éS "Accel Slim" navy red

Nike "Nyjah 3" [pink with white]
All the colourways of this shoe were (are) leather-free.

Globe "Austyn Gillette" [black with off white]
Pro shoe by Austyn Gillette. Not all colourways were vegan - you can see the other vegan colourways here. These look light but the soles are quite heavy. I haven't worn them for skating (apart from once for 2 minutes), only for walking around, and not walking very much. But the rubber has already broken in several parts. Not my favourite shoes. I'm sure Globe could come up with something better. Just copy the Servant "Dagon" or the Etnies "Marana", if you can't think of anything better.

Fake Vans "oldskool", 2023. These have an all-canvas and synthetic upper, no leather. They are more flimsy than real Vans. The black and white ones (below) started to tear at the seam holding the heel section together, and the "vulcanized" (?) sole just separated all over, which I tried to fix with Shoe Goo. These were purchased in Cebu City, Philippines. Note: "Fake Vans" is not a company name, but they are literally fake versions of Vans., that at least look almost identical the real Vans. They even come with a Vans authenticity tag.

Fake Vans "oldskool", 2023. These are the same as above but all black. These are practically unworn.

2024

I mostly skated Etnies Marana and Cariuma Vallely - vegan of course.

2025

Fake Vans [fake suede]

Cariuma "Mike Vallely" camel
These shoes (the vegan ones) came out in 2021, but I got them in 2024. I haven't skate them much so far, but they're great. The first run of "Mike Vallely" shoes on Cariuma was all vegan (you can see more colourways here), but later Mike Vallely stopped being vegan (again), started eating meat again, and then Cariuma started to make leather versions of this same "Mike Vallely" shoe.
