Vans vegan 2026 - or: the search for the leather-free wave

Update 32 July 2026:

Note that the Vans website (as of July 2026) says this one the page for the "Sk8-Hi blue denim" shoes:

"Style VN0A5FCCBJB

Completely redesigned for modern skateboarding, the Skate Classics collection delivers more of what skateboarders need to enable maximum progression. Made with classic suede and canvas uppers, the Skate Sk8-Hi gives you the iconic look you want while bringing all the performance benefits skateboarders demand." and "Suede and 10 oz canvas upper for a durable and classic look"

This is just a generic statement about the "Sk8-Hi" shoe. The "Sk8-Hi blue denim" is a very specific colourway of the classic "Sk8-Hi" style. The one below has no suede.

It's best to double-check for any suede inside the shoes. But I think that would be highly unusual and it looks unlikely from the photos.

--------

The classic Vans "Era" and "Authentic" shoes have no "Vans stripe". So leather-free versions are easy to find - just look for those with an all-canvas upper.

This is different for the classic "Sk8-Hi" and "Old Skool" shoes. Even those WITHOUT any suede in the toe and heel areas - that is those with an "all-canvas upper" typically still have a Vans stripe that is NOT canvas - and that Vans stripe is most commonly real (animal-source) leather.

One all-black and vegan "Old Skool" - the Vans stripe is synthetic leather - has been available for a while, at least 20 years. I think, almost exactly 20 years, actually, maybe 21 or 22.

I just saw these "Sk8-Hi" and "Old Skool" that have an all-denim upper. No leather! Good.
