Not just nutrition!
Note that the topic of this special issue is how to improve or support vegan women's health. Consequently, many scientific fields can contribute useful insights. As it says in the calle on the Women's Health (Sage) website:
"
Description

Vegan diets are increasingly popular in nearly all parts of the world. Common motivations include animal welfare and rights, environmental concerns, health beliefs, and religion. Most consistent vegans hold strong ethical views, avoiding non-food animal products and animal use in entertainment. Misunderstandings about vegan diets’ definitions and motivations remain widespread, even among scientists. Nutritional science’s historical focus on nutrient deficiencies fosters skepticism toward dietary restrictions that deviate from mainstream omnivorous diets. The ethics of animal production and consumption is contentious; many vegans’ strong ethical stance often provokes hostility from both vegans and omnivores. Thus, vegan health is influenced not only by nutrient intake but also by ethics and societal context. A majority of vegans worldwide are women. Female-specific factors—such as iron loss during menstruation, pregnancy, and gender discrimination—may interact with vegan dietary and ethical choices. This Special Collection seeks to present the latest solution-oriented approaches to health promotion among vegan women.

Important to know: Open access fee!
Please note that the journal Women's Health is a fully open access journal. That means that authors must pay an open access fee. "The standard article processing charge (APC) is $2,450 USD" ... plus taxes. The usual way this is done is to have the university where you work pay the fee - but this isn't always possible. So two ideas here:

You do not have to pay an APC (here: = open access fee) ... if you are an author or choose a corresponding author ...
  • ... who [option 1] is from a low-income country ...
"A list" countries get a "full waiver" (no fee needs to be paid), whereas "B list countries" will only get a 50% discount - see the countries listed here ... Ukraine, for example, is "A list".

or

  • ... who [option 2] is affiliated with a university or research institution that covers the APC through an open access agreement between the university and Sage. See here

If you have a good manuscript idea but don't know how to pay the open access fee --> Ask me!

Deadline
"Deadline" (to use this gruesome term) is 19 Decemeber 2025. But this may be extended. So, don't panic.
